As it stands, the debt ceiling feud is still raging on with no solution in sight.
Instead of cooperating with Republicans Democrats are prepared to let the United States economy collapse as they hold the nation hostage and demand more taxpayer money to fund their woke agenda.
But now, this Democrat Congresswoman just made one ridiculous demand that has Joe Biden cowering in fear.
The debt ceiling feud exemplifies the futility of the federal government
One of the most basic functions of the federal government is to create a budget without bankrupting the nation.
Apparently, this is too much to ask from the Biden regime, who is warning of an imminent debt default as soon as next week if House Republicans do not give into their radical demands.
Much like a teenage girl maxing out her parent’s credit card at the mall, President Joe Biden and his Democrat cronies have maxed out America’s debt ceiling with one frivolous multi-trillion-dollar spending spree after another.
In order to get their way, some Democrat Members of Congress are proposing bold plans in an effort to avoid a debt default.
Last Thursday, radical left-wing Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) proposed an odd plan on CNN This Morning that involved invoking the 14th Amendment to solve the so-called “crisis.”
“It’s our Constitutional obligation to raise the debt ceiling which Republicans are refusing to do,” Jayapal claimed. “So again, let’s make it clear that anyone who thinks that this is normal, it’s not normal. Republicans are using this as a hostage-taking move, because they couldn’t get these cuts that are trying to get in during the regular negotiations and appropriations session. I think the American people have to understand that that is what is happening.”
“I don’t want to use the 14th Amendment,” she added. “But what I am saying is that if it’s a choice between a catastrophic deal for the American people, either through default or through these awful spending cuts, than I think the president would have to go to using his unilateral authority to raise the debt ceiling.”
Democrats are proving that they have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to the Constitution
More specifically, Rep. Jayapal is referring to the beginning of Section 4 of the 14th Amendment which states, “The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.”
This passage was added after the Civil War in order to avoid readmitted southern states from claiming that the national debt was not their concern, since they were part of the Confederacy when it was incurred.
Rep. Jayapal and her Democrat colleagues have a very tenuous grasp on the United States Constitution, which is evident nearly every time they open their mouths about gun control or free speech.
