There’s been some horrible sports performances over the years.
But this is by far the worst performance imaginable and you have to see it.
And now this comical slowest Olympic runner ever is now causing an international incident.
The prestige of the Olympics
Ever since the ancient Greek communities put forward their best athletes to compete and show the rest of the villages and cities that they were superior compared to all others, the competitive nature between communities has evolved into the Olympics.
And to any community, that superiority matters.
Just look at the 1936 olympics.
The Nazis held the Olympics in Germany, and they were doing everything they could to show the world that they were superior.
In the end, Germany did end up winning the medal count over the United States with 101 medals compared to 57.

But a decade later, the United States would have the last laugh as it won World War II.
And over the past several decades, China has been investing billions of dollars into their Olympic athletes as they try to compete with the United states.
That’s not because they care so much about sports.
It’s because the Chinese Communist Party is trying to show the world that they are a force to be reckoned with both on and off the playing field.
And you also have smaller nations which garner so much pride and enthusiasm when one of their athletes wins a medal, because they feel like they have made their place on the world map and can show that they can compete.
But unfortunately for Somalia, no one got that memo that you’re supposed to put your best athletes in to win international competitions.
And now, one viral video is both hilarious to watch, and the reason an international incident has occurred in Somalia.
The great couch potato of Somalia
During the 2023 World University Games, some of the top athletes in the world competed at track and field competitions.
And as you would imagine, nearly all of the athletes were very impressive, and would obviously beat you at a 40 yard dash.
That was not the case for one Somalian competitor.
Somalian competitor Nasra Ali Abukar is related to the senior vice president of the Somali Athletics Federation.
During her 100 meter sprint performance, everyone in the stadium could realize that she wasn’t in the World University Games because of her athleticism.
In the viral video, Abukar looked like your average couch potato trying to sprint.
And by the end of the race, she finished a whopping 10 seconds behind first place – most runners in the event finished the entire race in just 12 seconds or less.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports should step down. It's disheartening to witness such an incompetent government. How could they select an untrained girl to represent Somalia in running? It's truly shocking and reflects poorly on our country internationally. pic.twitter.com/vMkBUA5JSL

This has created outrage in Somalia, and has resulted in the nation’s Sports Minister, Mohamed Barre Mohamud, calling for the Chair of the Somali Athletics Foundation to resign over nepotism.
“Khadijo Aden Dahir, the Chairwoman of the Somali Athletics Federation, has engaged in acts of abuse of power, nepotism, and defaming the name of the nation in (the) international arena,” Barre Mohamud publicly stated.
While Somalia may be best known for pirates, there’s undoubtedly at least a few citizens who could have put up a performance that wouldn’t have completely embarrassed the nation.
