When left-wing radicals train their sights on a target there is no stopping them.
The Biden regime has already begun weaponizing the federal government against Democrats’ political enemies.
And now Ted Cruz and Joe Manchin are pushing this new plan to save gas stoves from the far left.
Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) have crafted bipartisan legislation to stop the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) from spending taxpayer money to regulate gas stoves.
Many welcome the measure but say that the bill doesn’t go far enough, as Americans should be free to cook however they like without it being any concern of the government.
“Make no mistake, radical environmentalists want to stop Americans from using natural gas,” Cruz said. “The CPSC’s proposed ban on gas stoves is the latest egregious scaremongering by the Far Left and their Biden administration allies. I am pleased to partner with Senator Manchin in this bipartisan effort to stop the federal government from issuing regulations that put the interests of the Green New Deal before the well-being of American families.”
“I can tell you the last thing that would ever leave our house is the gas stove we cook on, and I will continue to fight any overreach by the CPSC,” Manchin noted..
One study claimed that there was a correlation between gas stoves and 13% of childhood asthma cases, but another in Lancet, Great Britain’s leading medical journal, found “no evidence of an association between the use of gas as a cooking fuel and either asthma symptoms or asthma diagnosis.”
Critics of heavy-handed government regulation say that, at most, the government should recommend that parents of young children weigh the risks of natural-gas stoves versus the rewards.
Americans should be free to decide whether a theoretical risk of a disputed correlation with asthma cases outweighs the benefits of warm homes, hot meals, and boiled water — especially during life-threatening, disaster-driven power outages.
Though this bill would de-fang CPSC, the Biden regime has already moved on.
The Biden Department of Energy (DOE) has proposed new “standards” that would make gas stoves impossible to build to satisfy the new regulations.
According to the Wall Street Journal, “Twenty of the 21 gas stove-top models that the Energy Department tested wouldn’t comply with its proposed standards.”
A more workable solution would be if Senators Cruz and Manchin should seek bipartisan sponsors for companion House legislation that Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) could schedule for prompt consideration.
House passage could then pave the way for a Senate vote on a broader law.
Kudos to Joe Manchin and Ted Cruz for getting the ball rolling, but in order to stop Democrats’ goal of turning the U.S. into a nanny state, more work needs to be done.
