During his 2016 Presidential campaign Donald Trump vowed that if he was elected he would finally declassify all of the documents around the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
But that was one of the promises he never followed through on.
And Robert F. Kennedy Jr. left Tucker Carlson reeling when he revealed exactly why Donald Trump never declassified the JFK assassination docs.
Trump shocked the world in 2017 with the release of 1000s of documents
The true story around the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy remains one of the biggest, long-standing mysteries in American history.
From the dubious nature of the “lone gunman” and “magic bullet” theories that have been cemented as the accepted, mainstream explanation for the ordeal to the shoddy and corrupt Warren Commission who created said theories, there’s plenty of reason millions of Americans have become fascinated by the conspiracy theories around it.
But in 2017, after nearly 60 years, the first step towards transparency was made when former President Donald Trump ordered the release of a portion of the documents in order to meet a deadline Congress had previously set for their release in 1992.
“I will be releasing ALL #JFKFiles other than the names and. . .addresses of any mentioned person who is still living,” he wrote on social media at the time, indicating that he planned to follow through on his campaign promise to do just that.
Trump said that he wanted to “put any and all conspiracy theories to rest” after decades of speculation.

And the release of a small portion of the classified JFK documents ultimately finally came from the National Archives.
“Now online: 1000s of documents (some withheld and some previously redacted) related to #JFK assassination,” the U.S. National Archives wrote.

But the documents released were, once again, heavily redacted, keeping the JFK assassination shrouded in secrecy.

As the years passed, and Trump left office, it became clear that the small batch of heavily redacted documents were all the American people were going to get.
But now, we may have some answers as to why the former President was never able to fulfill his promise for transparency.
Mike Pompeo is a “criminal”
In an interview with JFK’s nephew and Independent Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Tucker Carlson asked the Kennedy family scion why he believed Trump didn’t release all the JFK files like he had promised.
RFK admitted that like many Trump supporters, he “was astonished that Trump didn’t declassify them because he promised it during the campaign.”
But unlike many Trump supporters, he’s been able to actually talk to the former President about why he never followed through with declassification.
According to RFK, it was former Trump-appointed CIA Director and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who led the charge to keep the former President from releasing the JFK docs.
“I talked to President Trump for the first time about that this week,” RFK told Carlson. “He said that Mike Pompeo begged him. . .called him and said, ‘this would be a catastrophe to release these.’”

Carlson, who has been a longtime critic of Pompeo, took a moment to remind his viewers that he fully believes Pompeo is a “criminal” – a belief he said he was more than willing to defend in court, should the former CIA Director follow through on his threat to sue the former Fox News host over it.
But it might not matter what Pompeo thinks on the next go-around because Trump has now made a new promise.
“None of the people. . .are alive now”
After receiving RFK’s endorsement earlier this month, Trump brought him on stage at a Phoenix rally.
Trump took the opportunity to thank RFK for his endorsement, and offered what he called a “tribute” to his former opponent.
“I will establish a new independent presidential commission on assassination attempts, and they will be tasked with releasing all of the remaining documents. . .” he vowed.
Discussing the development with Carlson, RFK said that “none of the people who were implicated in that crime are alive now,” so it makes sense.
Now Trump is pushing to end the federal government’s secrets and expose how bad actors have been weaponizing federal agencies for decades.
RFK says that people were “indignant” when they found out that the FBI had been spying on political opponents, like JFK and civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr., in the 1960s.
And perhaps this move would bring to light just how deep this problem has gone.
