In today’s world, very few people exclusively go to print media for news and opinion pieces.
The Internet reigns supreme, and keeping this form of media open and available for a variety of viewpoints is crucial for any sort of functioning democracy.
But Obama just made a shocking claim about free speech that will leave your jaw on the floor.
If there is one thing leftists hate, it is people who are not like them.
The Internet, and the many social media websites that dominate it such as Facebook and Twitter, have become a modern-day forum of sorts.
These platforms are where people go to communicate their viewpoints, ideas, and concerns for millions of people to read.
It does not take a genius to figure out why having a fair, level playing field on forums such as these is so important.
But as you know, leftists absolutely loathe the concept of anybody having a different worldview than them.
That is why the radical Left is on an all-out crusade to completely tilt the Internet and its many social media platforms in their favor.
After all, as many dictators have learned over the centuries, if you can control the press you can control people’s minds.
This is exactly why the freedom of the press is so central to the American way of life.
You would think that these fundamental values would be the one thing people could agree on in this country, but the exact opposite is true.
In fact, just the other day, former President Barack Obama made some shocking claims about social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
While speaking to students at Stanford University, Obama claimed that “The First Amendment is a check on the power of the state. It doesn’t apply to private companies like Facebook and Twitter,”
Yet again, Obama could not be any more wrong.
Perhaps he was just trying to pander to the brainwashed college students in front of him, but either way, his words are very dangerous.
While he is right to point out that companies like Twitter and Facebook are private companies, they have essentially become part of our everyday life and if they are not willing to facilitate free speech, then that opens the door to some very serious problems.
Unfortunately, Twitter and Facebook have already gone down the path of censorship, banning accounts of high profile politicians, putting annotations on anything related to COVID, and censoring anything it deems to be untrue.
Unless Americans stand up to these Big Tech giants, then the future of free speech in America is under direct attack.
