Democrats long pretended as though there is no downside to the illegal immigration crisis as border states run by Republicans saw thousands of illegal aliens enter the country daily.
But that charade proved difficult to maintain once the problem finally reached their backyard.
And New York Democrat Mayor Eric Adams made one oddly conservative declaration about illegal immigration that has woke extremists in a total tailspin.
Some Democrats are finally coming to terms with reality
In 2017, New York City became a so-called “sanctuary city,” meaning illegal aliens could reside in the city without any fear of facing legal consequences from local authorities for breaking the law.
New Yorkers overwhelmingly supported this measure, and similar measures passed in other Democrat-controlled cities and states across the nation.
However, in recent months, a massive number of illegal aliens have found their way to the Big Apple, causing major problems throughout the region.
As a result, homeless shelters are at max capacity, and the government has resorted to turning schools, hotels and other buildings into housing illegal aliens.
Overcrowding, homelessness, and even crime have also spiked as a direct result of the massive influx of illegal aliens into New York City.
And while many Democrats continue to pretend the illegal immigration crisis is somehow a positive for the nation, New York Democrat Mayor Eric Adams is starting to change his tone on the matter.
During a speech on Wednesday, Mayor Adams admitted to New Yorkers that he now believes illegal immigration is a problem that has no end in sight.
“Let me tell you something, New Yorkers: Never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an ending to,” Adams said. “I don’t see an ending to this. I don’t see an ending to this. This issue will destroy New York City, destroy New York City. We’re getting 10,000 migrants a month.”
“One time we were just getting Venezuela, now we’re getting Ecuador, now we’re getting Russian-speaking coming through Mexico, now we’re getting Western Africa, now we’re getting people from all over the globe have made their minds up that they’re going to come through the southern part of the border and come into New York City,” he added.
Mayor Adams’s claim that illegal immigration is “destroying New York City” represents a massive change in tone for Democrats.
Given New York City’s status as a “sanctuary city,” the city government cannot deport illegal aliens, or devote any resources to federal law enforcement to do so.
A taste of what border states deal with daily
For border states like New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas, illegal immigration is a part of daily life.
Schools are overcrowded, and English has practically become a secondary language.
Meanwhile, states like New York pass measures to become a “sanctuary state,” not thinking the massive influx of illegal aliens will ever reach their communities.
The overcrowding of illegal aliens in New York City demonstrates the futility of such laws, which as Mayor Eric Adams claimed, are destroying their cities.
