Joe Biden just had his day ruined by this Democrat Senator with just two words

Poor Joe.

He had high hopes that Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer would send him this radical gun control proposal as a Christmas present before Republicans take control of the U.S. House.

But now this Democrat Senator just threw a wet blanket on Biden’s big plan.

Chris Murphy says votes aren’t there for Assault Weapons Ban in Senate

Just days after Joe Biden ranted about how sick it is that it is still legal to purchase semi-auto firearms in America and demanded Congress send him an “assault weapons” ban, Connecticut U.S. Senator Chris Murphy told the corporate-controlled media that they don’t have the votes.

Murphy, of course, is one of the biggest gun grabbers in Washington, D.C., so his admission of defeat speaks volumes about the state of play in the Capitol.

But that doesn’t mean that they still won’t try to get the votes.

On Sunday, Murphy told CNN’s Dana Bash that he was “glad that President Biden is gonna be pushing us to take the vote on an assault weapons ban,” lamenting though that the Senate probably does not have the 60 votes need to pass it, “but let’s see if we can try to get that number as close to 60 as possible.”

The political Left has been pushing for Senate Democrats to blow up the filibuster to pass gun control since Biden won the 2020 election so that they could pass a so-called “assault weapons” ban, and other liberal priorities, with just 51 votes instead of 60.

But so far it appears that the more “moderate” Democrat Senators like Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona are not likely to support ending the filibuster to pass policy, let alone for Joe Biden’s gun ban by the end of December.

Will Biden ban semi-autos through Executive Order?

Many would claim that it is crazy to think that President Biden would try to ban semi-automatic firearms via Executive Order, pointing to the Supreme Court’s current conservative control, especially in the wake of the Bruen decision.

It’d be naïve to think that the Democrats wouldn’t try to grow the size of government even in the face of opposition from the Supreme Court.

Look no further than other actions taken by the Biden administration to grow the administrative state, or just look at FDR’s pushing forward with his New Deal agenda even after the Supreme Court struck down numerous pieces of his plan.

Of course, FDR eventually used threats of Court packing to get the Supreme Court to back off, which the Left is using today as a rallying cry to destroy the conservative Supreme Court, especially after the overturning of Roe and the Obergfell decision potentially being on the chopping block next.

Why wouldn’t Joe Biden at least flirt with trying to ban “assault weapons” via the ATF?

After ratcheting up the anti-gun rhetoric this past week by calling for essentially a ban on all semi-automatic handguns, shotguns, and rifles, it would seem right on par for them to “go it alone” through an executive agency.

Perhaps it is a bridge too far for them to try it right now, but I think it’s something that conservatives need to have eyes wide open on as a possibility.
