Democrats’ efforts to force every American to buy an electric vehicle isn’t wavering.

But thankfully not everyone is on board with Democrats’ environmental extremist agenda.

And now Joe Biden is throwing a fit after this Democrat Senator exposed Democrats’ environmental extremist push for electric vehicles.

Manchin takes issue with the EV battery supply chain

As the Biden regime keeps pushing EV mandates, the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources has been carefully scrutinizing these mandates and how supply chains would be able to meet the new requirements.

Some worry that EV subsidies could embolden Communist China, which currently controls a large bulk of major EV supply chains.

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) is chair of the Committee and says that his problem “is with an administration whose crusade is to convert everyone over to an EV regardless of where the battery came from.”

The issue of battery sourcing came up in a recent hearing on Capitol Hill.

EV batteries contain a metal anode and cathode, both of which largely come from China.

These anodes and cathodes are differently charged to create a flow of electrons that power the EV battery.

According to Manchin, China is responsible for 74% of the world’s cathode production and 92% of the world’s anode production, on top of 76% of the world’s lithium-ion battery production and 60-100% of much of the world’s mineral processing.

Those minerals are processed after they’re extracted from the raw ore that has been mined.

But Manchin said that “it doesn’t have to be that way.”

“America and the Free Trade Agreement partners have the capacity to produce this for ourselves,” he added.

He said that the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and bipartisan so-called “infrastructure” bill is creating the problem, and while the regime seeks to implement a “radical climate agenda,” they’re also breaking the law.

Proposed guidance from the regime lays out the percentage of minerals that must be extracted or processed in the US or countries that are Free Trade Agreement partners.

But Manchin said that number is currently just half of what the original guidance requires.

EVs: a bad idea all around

According to Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), “The IRA stands for, to me, irresponsible, reckless and alarming.”

Barrasso is a ranking member of the Committee, and said a Goldman Sachs analysis found that EV subsidies in the IRA will cost $393 billion, a whopping 28 times larger than the estimate generated by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

“Our national debt is now $34 trillion, and thanks to the IRA, we are about to spend hundreds of millions of dollars we don’t have to subsidize electric cars that the great majority of Americans do not want,” Barrasso said.

He said analyses also found that the premature closing of coal and natural gas-fired plants is already increasing the frequency of blackouts across the country.

“The Biden administration is working to shut down even more of these power plants while promoting a huge new source of demand on the grid, which is of course electric cars,” he added.

Barrasso also said that the worst part of the IRA is that it gives away subsidies that end up going to Communist Chinese companies and others that are “hostile to American interests.”

“You’ve heard the expression follow the money. Well, if you want to follow the IRA money, the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, you’re going to need a passport because the money is going all over the world,” Barrasso added.
