Per Shapely, Weiss claimed that he could not prosecute in other states, and requested that he be made a special prosecutor in Washington, D.C. to investigate the case.
Not only were these claims misleading, but Weiss was also well aware that moving the case to D.C. would invalidate the case due to D.C. statutes of limitations on the matter.
In a letter penned by Shapely legal team, Shapely team claims “In an October 7, 2022, meeting at the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s Office, U.S. Attorney David Weiss told six witnesses he did not have authority to charge in other districts and had thus requested special counsel status.”
On Sunday, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy tweeted this letter, with the caption “We need to get to the facts, and that includes reconciling these clear disparities. U.S. Attorney David Weiss must provide answers to the House Judiciary Committee.”
He added, “If the whistleblowers’ allegations are true, this will be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Merrick Garland’s weaponization of DOJ.”
This tweet shows that impeaching Merrick Garland is now on the table in the immediate future for House Republicans.
If these allegations are true, Merrick Garland and perhaps Joe Biden would be potentially guilty of one of the most profound cover ups in recent memory.
