HGTV’s Home Town has become one of the network’s biggest hits in recent years with nearly 1.5 million Americans tuning in for new episodes on Sunday nights.
After eight seasons most fans believed they knew the show’s husband and wife co-hosts Ben and Erin Napier about as well as they could.
But HGTV fans are going berserk after Home Town’s Erin Napier revealed one secret about her past that put jaws on the floor.
Erin Napier shows off her musical talents
Erin Napier returned to her hometown of Laurel, Mississippi and her musical roots in the latest episode of the popular HGTV show Home Town, which she co-hosts with her husband, Ben.
During the episode, the couple renovated the bachelor pad of her former high school bandmate, Ben Smith, and Erin decided to rock out just like she did years ago.
She reluctantly agreed to dust off her guitar and perform as her husband watched with a huge smile on his face.
According to Erin, Ben asks her “weekly” to sing and play guitar for him and their daughters, six-year-old Helen and two-year-old Mae.
Ben says that Erin is much more talented than she gives herself credit for.
According to a 2021 Instagram post from Erin, she and Smith were in a band called Sunday’s Maria, which was named after a Maria featured in several songs by the band Counting Crows.
Erin said the band played a lot of cover songs by artists like Blind Melon, Alanis Morrisette, Barenaked Ladies, and others.
Although Erin decided to choose interior design as a career instead of music, she has played her guitar a few times over the past several years.
In 2011, she performed for the first time since college – a fan who attended the performance uploaded a video of her playing “Bobby McGee” on YouTube.
In 2016, the year Home Town debuted on HGTV, Erin posted a video in which she sang and played You Are My Sunshine on the guitar.
“When I was 14, I started playing music at the coffee house in downtown Laurel to earn my money. I did that until I graduated high school when my interests in art just kind of edged out my interest in music,” she wrote in the caption.
Erin also said that her husband “still mourns it, always asking me to sing him a song.”
In 2022, Erin told People that music was her “first love,” and she did play guitar for a Christmas movie that she and Ben appeared in.
Erin’s love for music goes deep
Not only is Erin a talented musician, but she also loves to talk about music with fans.
In December 2022, she exchanged a few tweets with fans about some of her favorite artists and her favorite SiriusXM satellite radio channels.
She revealed in a post on X that she is a “huge fan” of the Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer, adding in another tweet that she thought “Nirvana was overrated.”
As for her favorite radio channels, she wrote, “I dabble in 1st wave. Lithium, Pop Rocks, [and] North Americana are my favorites.”
SiriusXM’s Lithium channel is the home of “grunge rock and 90s alternative” and typically features bands like Green Day, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Weezer, Oasis, and others.
Erin enjoys making her own Spotify playlists and has made over 20 of them public, including one called “I’m not a Swiftie” which features 21 Taylor Swift songs.
