Dr. Anthony Fauci was lauded by Democrats and their media allies as a national hero during the pandemic despite the hundreds of thousands of deaths that happened under his direction.

But now Congressional Republicans are putting the former head of the NIS under a microscope.

And Dr. Anthony Fauci is running out of options after Rand Paul made one move that appears to have the authoritarian bureaucrat cornered.

Paul says it’s time for Fauci to lawyer up

Dr. Anthony Fauci has been the center of attention around COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

At first, he was the authority on how federal public health agencies should respond.

Now, the former head of the NIH is the target of an investigation relating to the origins of the virus.

After countless hearings involving heated interactions between Dr. Fauci and Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), a Duke-educated medical doctor with over 30 years in private practice in his own right, things are starting to get interesting.

The firebrand Kentucky Senator just handed over an “official criminal referral” for Fauci, and now the bureaucrat may be forced to lawyer up.

Senator Paul announced the referral earlier this week, citing an email from February 2020 that he says proves Dr. Fauci lied to Congress during a hearing about his alleged use of U.S. taxpayer dollars to fund dangerous gain-of-function research – the process of intentionally making a virus more deadly and contagious in order to supposedly learn how to stop it – at the infamous Wuhan Institute of Virology, which some experts believe was the source of the COVID outbreak.

Fauci denied Paul’s claims, despite evidence that was presented directly to him.

Fauci and other government scientists are trying to “obscure accountability”

In July 2021, Dr. Fauci was called to Congress to explain why an article entitled “Discovery of a rich gene pool of bat SARS-related coronaviruses” detailed the manipulation of the virus.

In response to the evidence, Fauci simply dismissed Dr. Paul, telling him, “you don’t know what you’re talking about,” while citing so-called “experts” at the CDC.

Paul read from the paper, explaining that it concluded that “viruses that in nature only infect animals were manipulated in the Wuhan lab to gain the function of infecting humans.”

Fauci claimed that the paper wasn’t a good source, and argued that the process of manipulating the virus laid out in the paper had been “judged by qualified staff up and down the chain as not being gain-of-function” – imagine that, a Democrat changing a term’s definition when it’s convenient.

But Paul pushed back, reading from the NIH’s own definition of gain of function.

“It says that ‘scientific research that increases the transmissibility among mammals is gain of function,’” Paul explained. “They took animal viruses… and they increased their transmissibility to humans.”

The Senator wanted Dr. Fauci to know that Congress recognized his efforts to “obscure accountability…”

Fauci “absolutely lied” to Congress

Now, Paul is seeking to prove that Fauci knowingly lied to Congress, and an email from Dr. Fauci is making the task before the Senator far easier.

In the email, Dr. Fauci recalled concerns from “highly credible” scientists about the “mutations in the virus that would be most unusual to have evolved naturally…”

He said that “there was a suspicion that this mutation was intentionally inserted” into the virus to make it more transmissible.

Fauci went on to write that “the suspicion was heightened by the fact that scientists in Wuhan University are known to have been working on gain-of-function experiments…”

According to Senator Paul, “this directly contradicts everything [Fauci] said in committee hearing… denying absolutely that [NIH] funded any gain of function.”

Paul said that it was “absolutely a lie” and “that’s why [he] sent a criminal referral to the DOJ.”
