Just outside of Chicago the small suburban town of Dolton, Illinois is the sight of one of the most bizarre political scenes Americans have ever seen.
A self-proclaimed “Super Mayor” has seized total control over the city and is behaving as a petty tyrant.
Now America’s most corrupt Mayor is throwing a hissy fit after her latest ploy for more power came crashing down.
Welcome to Dolton
With a population just over 20,000, the township of Dolton, IL has long been a fairly quiet village just south of Chicago.
It was never on anyone outside of the area’s radar until Tiffany Henyard was elected Mayor.
She was a Trustee of the township for eight years, but she got into a battle with the Mayor at the time, and then beat him in the Democrat Primary, taking the position for herself.
She ran as a “reform” candidate, and claimed there was corruption in the Mayor’s office without ever providing any proof.
Then strange things started happening in Dolton – they hired a friend as the Deputy Chief of police, started running up big bills on the city’s credit card, purchased luxury vehicles for the police and herself, took two taxpayer funded luxury trips to Las Vegas, and hired herself a security detail in order to travel around the town in motorcades as if she were the President of the United States.
Then, city employees started having problems.
They would go to the doctor and were told their township-provided insurance didn’t exist, their pension funds were not being deposited, and no one was sure where the money was going.
When people started asking questions at Trustees meetings, they were ushered out by the police, and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests were ignored.
Finally, the village hired its own special investigator, the former Democrat Mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot, to look into the village’s finances – she only charged them $400 an hour.
Even Lightfoot is Shocked
Lightfoot presented her findings at a special meeting on August 8, leaving the town shocked when she informed them that the local government was now $3.6 million in debt after having a more than $5 million surplus prior to Henyard taking over as Mayor.
The former Chicago Mayor discovered massive financial irregularities, including massive charges on the township’s credit cards, including more than over $40,000 in Amazon purchases made in a single day – no one still has any idea what the $40,000 was used to purchase.
And it only gets worse from there.
At times, Henyard’s “personal” police force – aka her “security detail” – was paid upwards of 90 hours or more in “overtime” per week.
But legitimate vendors for the city were not being paid what they were owed, as millions in checks were drafted but never signed or sent.
Lied About His Personal Bankruptcy
But Deputy Police Chief Lewis Lacy, while raking in big bucks in overtime, was pleading to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court that he was broke.
He did not report much of his income and claimed he was separated from his wife, so he didn’t have to declare her income.
He has been indicted by the federal government for a host of federal crimes, which if convicted, could send him to jail for the rest of his life.
He filed for bankruptcy in 2021.
“The former deputy chief of police of Dolton, Illinois, is accused of concealing assets and income to avoid paying creditors and settling a lawsuit, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Illinois,” Fox News Chicago reported. “The nine-count indictment charges Lacey with bankruptcy fraud, making false statements in a bankruptcy case and perjury.”
He was finally fired by the Board of Trustees as a cost savings move on August 8.
“The new criminal case was only brought in hopes his client will rat out the embattled municipal leader,” his attorney said, per The New York Post.
Things are starting to fall apart for Mayor Tiffany Henyard.
