America’s favorite chicken sandwich just got a surprising “twist” that will leave you scratching your head

Fast food chains nationwide are in a bit of an arms race.

They’re all scrambling to roll out their next big hit leading to some rather unique offerings.

And now America’s favorite chicken sandwich just got a surprising “twist” that will leave you scratching your head.

Chick-fil-A takes a slow and steady approach to “imagining” new menu items

Chick-fil-A is hands down the most popular fast-food chicken chain in the United States. 

As of this year, the brand has just over 3,000 franchise locations in 48 states.

The best part about eating at a Chick-fil-A restaurant is how easy it is to know what you want. 

The brand aims to provide a fast and efficient experience for their guests and focuses on what makes them so popular — their chicken sandwich.

But even their core offering needs to be innovated at times.

And when it’s time for a twist, they have a tried-and-true method.

According to Chick-fil-A’s director of menu Alison Duncan, the company has a five-step process for adding new menu items, and it all starts with understanding customer interests.

Next, Duncan says they move onto the second phase, “imagining.” 

“This is where our chefs really get to unleash their creative talents,” she says. 

Following their “imagining” phase a prototype is created, tested, and eventually rolled out.

That’s where the brand is right now with their newest summer offer.

New sandwich promises a “unique twist” on America’s favorite sandwich

Chick-fil-A just announced a new product just in time for Americans to enjoy their summer road trips. 

The brand is taking their signature lemon and herb marinated chicken breast and adding a twist. 

The grilled chicken breast will be topped with brown sugar and pepper bacon, pepper jack cheese, sweet and spicy pickles, and lettuce. 

All of that piled on a new toasted maple bun. 

“We are always looking for ways to make unique twists to our entrée selection and the Maple Pepper Bacon Sandwich is a delicious spin on the Chick-fil-A flavors our Guests know and love,” Duncan said.  

The new grilled chicken sandwich hits stores on June 10 and they’re excited to see how it performs on the national stage. 

And one lucky tester at USA Today has already done a review.

One piece of advice “ask for extra” pickles

Even Chen was invited to the Chick-fil-A test kitchen in Atlanta, Georgia in May ahead of its nationwide rollout and she said she was surprised at how much she enjoyed it. 

“It’s really good, and I say that as someone who does not like white meat and would never normally order a chicken breast,” Chen said.

“It took me two sold bites to figure out what I thought of the sandwich because it wasn’t’ what I expected,” she continued. 

Chen especially enjoyed the “sweet heat pickles” and suggested that everyone “ask for extra.”

The review at USA Today was music to the ears of the “mastermind” of the new sandwich, Chirsty Cook. 

Cook’s goal was to remind people that the restaurants offer “this tender and juicy grilled filet.” 

“We wanted to feature that in a way that customers had not experienced them before,” Cook explained.

It seems their goal will be accomplished this summer.
