Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is making her presence known in the 2024 Presidential election.
It was not what everyone was expecting.
And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a huge 2024 announcement that left her allies seething.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) rose to power in the Democrat Party because she has her finger on the pulse of the socialist woke left-wing outrage mob.
But Ocasio-Cortez’ typically finely tuned sense of the left-wing extremist sentiment failed her after she endorsed President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez made her support for Biden clear in an appearance on the Pod Save the World podcast.
“I believe, given that field, yes,” Ocasio-Cortez said of whether she was supporting the President’s re-election efforts. “I think he’s done quite well, given the limitations that we have. I do think that there are ebbs and flows as there are in any President, in any Presidency. You know, there are areas that I think were quite strong when he came right out of the gate with the American Rescue Plan. And, of course, the Inflation Reduction Act was a massive step in terms of our climate agenda.”
“But there are also areas that I think could have gone better,” she added. “ We have major structural issues in this country and start, I think it starts with the United States Senate. And I think that until we have senators that are willing to stand up and steer the filibuster in the eyes, there are a lot of structural issues about the Senate, and the United States Senate will be what holds back this country from an enormous amount of progress.”
Normally, there is nothing unremarkable about an elected official endorsing an incumbent President from within their own Party.
But there is nothing normal about President Biden’s standing heading into the 2024 election.
Real Clear Politics’ polling average shows Biden’s approval rating hovering at just 42.2%, while he is also virtually tied with former President Donald Trump, who leads the President by less than 1%.
Those two numbers – combined with the fact that President Biden will be 86 at the end of a second term – explain why poll after poll shows the vast majority of Democrats do not want him to run again in 2024.
At the end of the day, all Democrats care about is keeping Trump out of the White House.
And socialists are furious that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is providing political cover for Biden to remain in the race.
Senator Bernie Sanders’ (Socialist-VT) senior aide, Briahna Joy Gray, slammed Ocasio-Cortez’s decision to back Biden.
“Endorsing Joe Biden now is a betrayal of progressive interests,” Gray fumed. “It was true of Bernie Sanders’ endorsement & its true of AOC.”
“*Most* Democrats don’t want Biden to run,” she added. “Bernie and AOC are tragically out of step w/ the movement & the moment.”
Democrats know they can’t just demand the President to drop out of the race.
The woke left-wing outrage mob would need a critical mass of pressure points to force him to drop out.
But Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorsing Joe Biden makes it seem like he has the support of a broad swath of the Party, and increases the chances he remains in the race.
